Bravington Capital: Why is the Law of Attraction beneficial to entrepreneurs?

Thursday 18 May, 2017

This week, full-service sales and event marketing firm, Bravington Capital reveals news on why the Law of Attraction is beneficial to the entrepreneurs worldwide.

About Bravington Capital: http://www.bravingtoncapital.co.uk/who-are-we/

The Law of Attraction involves the ability of an individual to be able to attract whatever they are focussing on, into their life. The law uses the power of the mind to translate whatever is in a person's thoughts into reality. All thoughts will turn into things eventually, so when a person focusses on negative thoughts, negative things will happen. By concentrating on positive thoughts, along with set goals, a person will find a way to achieve their dreams.

Creative visualisation is one cornerstone of the law of attraction, and this is most beneficial to entrepreneurs, claims Bravington Capital. Using the mind to visualise goals will activate the creative subconscious which will go a long way to generating ideas to achieve goals. Visualisation will program the brain to freely perceive and recognise situations that will help a person reach their dreams. Creative visualisation activates the law of attraction, pulling into one's life the positive people, resources and circumstances needed to accomplish goals. Also, it builds an individual's inner motivation to take the required steps for success.

Based in Southampton, Bravington Capital is a sales and marketing firm that connects Fortune 500 companies to their future consumers. The company use a direct sales and event marketing approach, to promote their client's products and services to potential customers. By using face-to-face marketing, the firm can receive instant feedback from the customer, which they can then put into developing new marketing and business plans to keep them one step ahead of new market changes.

Alex Mousley, Managing Director of Bravington Capital, is passionate about helping the education of future entrepreneurs. He affirms the use of the Law of Attraction and visualisation techniques as essential tools for entrepreneurs looking to achieve their business and life goals. As part of his mentoring, he teaches young entrepreneurs on how to focus on positive thoughts and aspects of life along with the ability to visualise the end goal. The MD states that the capacity to do this has a tremendous effect on the likelihood of reaching one's goal.

To inspire their young workforce, Akashic Ventures held a companywide meeting on creating a ‘no limitations' mindset and how this is integral to sustainable success.

About Akashic Ventures: http://www.akashicventures.co.uk/#about

Event marketing specialists, Akashic Venture, are experts in creating dynamic and engaging spaces where they can represent their client's brand and interact with consumers on a personal level. As an outsourcing solution to businesses, Akashic Venture boasts a team of expertly trained and highly professional sales contractors that work to increase customer acquisitions for their client while promoting a positive brand identity. Incorporation to providing their clients with a first-class service, the firm and it's MD invest in developing the next wave of sales and marketing talent by sharing their experiences, inspirations and skills with young people.

As part of their investment in young future, the firm recently held a meeting on creating a ‘no limitations' mind-set. A person with a no limits mindset is willing to step outside of the predefined box and can think and look at things in a different way to most other individuals in society. Akashic Ventures state that this is important in a competitive industry such as sales and marketing where people get out what they put in.

This is because individuals with a no limits mindset have certain qualities that help to program their brain in a way that will recognise situations and resources needed to achieve set goals and life dreams. A person with this type of mindset will believe that they are the only thing that can hold themselves back from success; there are no excuses, and if they want something enough, they will work hard to get it. If they are set back along the way, then this type of person will get back up and utilise the experience as a learning opportunity and momentum to move forward even bigger and stronger. They also never quit, even when things get hard.

Akashic Ventures hopes that this session will inspire their workforce to think bigger and set more new professional and personal goals because once the mindset is right, there are no limits on life's achievements.

Celebrity chef opens hospice kitchen

Thursday 18 May, 2017

After a quarter of a century of producing more than 300,000 meals for the families of children with life-limiting conditions, the kitchen at Francis House has undergone a major makeover.

In desperate need of a refurb, the cramped cupboards and small serving hatch have been replaced by modern sleek units. A large island complete with sinks also adds space for food preparation.

To celebrate the occasion, chef and Channel 4 Sunday Brunch host Simon Rimmer officially opened the new kitchen.

Among those in attendance were volunteers and staff including Francis House chef Dean Jenkins, who has worked at the hospice since it first opened in 1991.

“It looks amazing, the size of the kitchen that Dean’s got to work in now is going to make life much easier and give him and the volunteers the opportunity to cook more varied things. It will be brilliant for everyone,

“I’ve always been a big supporter of Francis House, the work they do here is unbelievable. I’m honoured to be the person to open the kitchen.” said Simon.

Dean from Withington, heads up a dedicated team of volunteers who travel to the Didsbury-based hospice from across the region to help with daily food preparation, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as washing up.

He said: “The kitchen was ready for an upgrade, it was quite big but didn’t use the space well. At the beginning we had domestic ovens now we have catering ovens, we’ve come a long way since the early days.”

Kitchens are often described as the heart of the home, and this is certainly the case at Francis House.

Dean said: “For the children and families that come here, having a mealtime routine in lives that are often chaotic is extremely important,

“It takes the pressure off the parents, when they come here they don’t have to cook and worry about organising a meal. It really is a great place to work.”

The daily menu caters for all needs and is often adapted if parents have a preferred dish. Family favourites are vegetable hot pot and lasagne.

Restaurant owner Simon knows the joy people get for having a meal cooked for them.

He said: “There’s something nice about having a plate of food put in front of you. I’d be quite happy to sit down and someone bring me beans on toast because I haven’t had to do it, but then equally I think there’s something really lovely about cooking food and just saying ‘dig in’.”

Mediahawk’s Call Tracking Software Can Now Track, Manage and Attribute Telephone Calls on a Global Scale

UK call tracking software provider, Mediahawk, has launched a global call tracking solution, allowing businesses to track, manage and automate their phone call activity worldwide.

With both online dynamic phone numbers and offline static local numbers, businesses can track all areas of their marketing and automatically attribute leads to the marketing source.

Worldwide Attribution of All Telephone Leads and Marketing Campaigns

For tracking online activity, each visitor sees a unique local telephone number. So if a website visitor is in the United States, they will see a tracked US specific phone number to call.

All telephone enquiries are linked to the exact advertising channel in real-time. Marketers see the precise source, medium, ad group, and visitor journey for each caller no matter where they are in the world. This allows for seamless attribution and performance analysis leading to better marketing decisions being made at the global level.

In addition, businesses can review caller history, add notes, and listen to call recordings for ongoing call handling optimisation. This will ensure messaging is effective for different countries.

As for integrations, Mediahawk’s international offering can be integrated with popular platforms such as Google Analytics, Salesforce, HubSpot, AdWords, DoubleClick, and more, to view telephone response data alongside your online response.

The international call tracking solution can become much more powerful by using the API to integrate with the platforms you use daily. Different marketing activities can be attributed the way you want them to be.

Speaking on the value of using dynamic local or toll-free numbers for international marketing campaigns, Mediahawk’s CEO Michael Morrell says: “If you have a business with a known international customer base purchasing from you, local targeting is key. If a customer in France is looking at the website of a US company, they want to be able to use a French telephone number. Using local telephone numbers in each region helps build trust and establish your business within that local audience. As a result, you’ll improve your marketing response and increase your conversion rates. Furthermore, this will finally answer those questions about ROI from your website and wider online marketing that have previously been difficult to obtain without correct tracking.”

About Mediahawk

Mediahawk is a leading call tracking and marketing analytics provider. They monitor the advertising effectiveness of thousands of marketing campaigns for companies such as Worldpay, Porsche, Kia UK, Miele, Barchester Healthcare and Travis Perkins. Mediahawk has been at the forefront of call tracking innovation, giving clients the ability to track online and offline activity that generates telephone enquiries. Website call tracking provides insights into visitor’s online journeys and the keywords, web pages and internet sources that result in phone calls. An Evening in ‘Cannes’ for an Indian Filmmaker

Thursday 18 May, 2017

Nice, May 18- The Wife’s Letter (Streer Potro), a Bengali film by Aneek Chaudhuri has come out in flying colors after gaining a handful of international recognitions such as Hamilton Film Fest, British Council, a presentation at EFM-Berlinale and this time it’s Cannes. On May 17, the film was screened at Gray 5 of Marche du film, Festival de Cannes at 20:00 hours local time.

Being the opening day of Festival de Cannes, where the focus was on glitz and glamour, a young filmmaker was excited for the screening of his film at one of the most prestigious corners of the world of Cinema. The director has also been featured in English magazine, India and you, and a french magazine, Indes which are widely available at Cannes.

The Wife’s Letter speaks of a hallucinated person who is trying (constantly) to match emotions with mathematics, or in other words, in this film, been named ‘X’, he is trying to find the constant to his value. Starring Kaushik Roy, the film is an attempt to amalgamate the artform of Salvador Dali and the simplicity of Rabindranath Tagore; Aneek quotes, “the film is targeted to the critics or anyone who actively belong to this field; the basic reason for choosing this target group is I truly consider the fact that the film is not identifiable to many of the common people’s uses and gratifications.”

Music plays an important part in The Wife’s Letter; orchestrated by Saikat Chattopadhyay, the music actually takes the film forward with a slight variation of Rabindra Sangeet. Aneek Chaudhuri himself produced the film along with Marie Adler and this is Indo-American production has taken independent filmmaking in India to a new level.

The festival season seems to have brought creative offsprings for the film and its director, and has not yet ended. However, it is worth mentioning that the film has got more support from abroad, be it the process of sales and distribution or, festival premieres than its country of origin.

Querencia investigate the drop in consumer confidence following article 50 trigger

Friday 19 May, 2017

As uncertainty mounts following Theresa May’s triggering of article 50, Sheffield-based outsourced sales and marketing experts, Querencia has been investigating the implications of the drop in consumer confidence.

About Querencia: http://www.querenciamarketing.com/about-us/

The Major Purchase Index has indicated a drastic five point drop in consumer behaviour in the UK, since last year. Experts nationwide are predicting this lull in consumer confidence to continue for the next few months in light of not only Brexit but also the additional concern of the uncertainty of the fate of the UK government leading up the General Election.

With Brexit negotiations due to imminently begin with the EU, and Scotland pushing for another independence referendum, the current UK market is taking a seemingly unavoidable blow. Research suggests consumers are taking a wait and see approach, putting spending on the back burner while Brexit developments surface.

Querencia recognises the current social and economic circumstances influencing the market, and for this reason are encouraging brands to outsource their marketing needs to direct marketing companies, to improve their connection with their customer base. Direct marketing companies such as Querencia have the unique opportunity to sell products and services directly to specific customers and clients. This method of marketing, conducted by a specialist company rather than through the retailer, gives businesses the opportunity to personalise their approach, interacting with consumers on face to face basis.

Querencia specialises in face to face marketing and sales solutions. The firm is confident that the only way to deliver exceptional customer experiences is to get out there and interact with customers one on one. Through years of operating in the sales and marketing sector, Querencia has witnessed the true power of face to face customer service.

Meeting customers in person puts them in control – it offers them the opportunity to ask questions, become immersed in a brand and identify exactly how a product or service could meet their needs. By combining these factors, Querencia can offer a memorable brand experience, which leaves customers feeling confident enough to make a final purchase decision, and which drives customer loyalty and increases market reach even during times of economic uncertainty.

PRESS RELEASE: AIDS SINCE THE 80s PROJECT -

$

Friday 19 May, 2017

This press release is embargoed until 27 June 2017

The largest collection of video interviews ever compiled about the deadly AIDS pandemic of the 1980s and 90s in the UK is due to be archived with the London Metropolitan Archive, preserving HIV/AIDS history for posterity.

The archive will consist of 100 in-depth interviews with survivors and others directly concerned with the pandemic.

The archive will be called: 100 Surviving HIV: The London Interviews

The interviews give many who have never shared their experiences and memories a chance to talk freely and at length – bucking the trend in an age of the sound bite. This archive of interviews will thus chronicle lives, lifestyles, crises and experiences of those directly affected by HIV/AIDS in the crisis conditions up to the advent to a treatment in 1996 – and then following up with the story to present day. The interviews will be the largest such collection of freely accessible video material yet gathered in the UK – to the great benefit of historians, researchers, educators and the general public.

From the archive will be drawn the materials for a feature film:

AIDS SINCE THE 80S (WORKING TITLE)

The film is a production of London-based producer/directors PAUL COLEMAN and ADAM ROBERTS, an independent TWO POINT ZERO production.

The overall project explores all aspects of HIV as it impacted gay men in the great part, but also intravenous drug-users and haemophiliacs. It explores how homophobia and stigma made a bad situation worse – a crucial lesson for today when HIV has spread out throughout the world.

The first generation to grow old with the virus reveal arduous experience as guinea pigs for experimental medication whose side effects were potentially deadly, and are dependent on drugs with unknown long-term side effects in a world where care regimes are not now so well resourced. The project also considers the mental health consequences for survivors and carers as a group.

PAUL COLEMAN lives in south London – in Bromley, and ADAM ROBERTS lives in north London – in Archway. Filming of the interviews will be complete by this summer. Release of the film is anticipated in 2018.

The London Metropolitan Archive is the natural home for this archive and have agreed to provide a permanent home for the entire collection of interviews. This arrangement will provide for the preservation, interpretation and public access to the archive in perpetuity. This archive of interviews will take its place in this official public record repository, to become a cornerstone of knowledge about the defining crisis that faced LGBTQ, drug using and haemophiliac populations when the HIV virus took hold with such devastating consequences. PAUL COLEMAN - co-producer of AIDS SINCE THE 80S Project: We're naturally delighted to be working with the LMA. Our project is a perfect match both to ongoing work at the LMA around the LGBT community and a wonderfully accessible archive that will allow both public and private access to this rich seam of historically significant story telling.

While primarily a pandemic that decimated the Gay community, we are proud to be inclusive of testimony from people of any sexuality, ethnicity, gender or class. This is powerful testimony of first-hand experiences about surviving a pandemic, of the horrors and heroes that would otherwise be lost forever. ADAM ROBERTS - co-producer of AIDS SINCE THE 80S Project: The project will interview 100 people touched by the virus. Already interviewed have been survivors, campaigners, friends, clinicians and counsellors. Filming will be complete later this year. Release of the film is planned in 2018.

It has been incredibly moving to witness this sharing of oral history – not least because many of those interviewed are talking about their experiences for the first time. Here are stories of great sorrow and loss, but also of health care innovation, compassion, tenderness and activism. This project brings home just how hard the years before effective treatment were, but also underline how that the human capacity for compassion and caring is boundless.

It is also woeful that many survivors continue to face profound and complex health and welfare challenges as they enter older age. JAN PIMBLETT - Principal Development Officer at London Metropolitan Archives:

This important work will ensure a significant collection is preserved for the future and can be shared. The stories will inform, inspire and influence, providing a powerful and empowering discourse around past, present and future experiences.

NOTES TO EDITORS: London Metropolitan Archive (LMA) is the archive repository for the Greater London area. The documents and books the LMA care for and provide access to date from 1067 to the present day and collections are constantly expanding. LMA is provided by the City of London. The archives are free to use, as are the majority of resources in the public research rooms in Clerkenwell, London. The City of London Corporation, which owns and manages London Metropolitan Archives (LMA), invests £80m every year in heritage and cultural activities of all kinds. It is the UK's largest funder of culture after the government, the BBC, and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

HIV IS AN ON-GOING THREAT TO PUBLIC HEALTH IN THE UK: There were 6,095 new HIV diagnoses in 2015 of which 54% were gay or bisexual men. 30% were diagnosed at a late stage of infection. 88,769 people were seen for HIV care in 2015. (Figures: Public Health England, December 2016) To date, more than 22,930 have died of AIDS in the UK. Despite medication, HIV is claiming lives in the UK even today. (Figure: Terrence Higgins Trust) AIDS SINCE THE 80S (WORKING TITLE), produced by PAUL COLEMAN and ADAM ROBERTS, is an independent production of TWO POINT ZERO. All profits from the film will be donated to charities working to provide care for older men and women living with HIV.

Monday 22 May, 2017

Cashfloat.co.uk
releases a free comprehensive guide to the welfare state in the UK, exploring
the various benefits available and how to claim. The guide also examines just
how successful the system is.

Cashfloat.co.uk, a trading style of Western Circle Limited, is publishing a series of articles that give an in-depth look into the UK welfare system. As a responsible online lender, Cashfloat is uniquely positioned to understand people who sometimes struggle to make it to payday. Understanding how the welfare system works and learning about benefits they may be eligible for can help many people save money instead of applying for expensive credit online.

“We saw how people struggled with their daily expenses, taking expensive payday loans to help them get by. They didn't realise that they could be claiming benefits, completely free of charge. This guide is a literal life saver, helping people get out of the most difficult situations,” says Becky Hall, project coordinator and researcher at Cashfloat.

What’s in the Guide?

The new guide begins with a fascinating dip into the history of welfare in the UK, offering intriguing insights into just how much the UK has changed over the last two hundred years. It then goes into detail about the benefits on offer to different sectors of society. Readers can find exact information about the benefits system for families as well as for the unemployed, disabled, and pensioners.

The controversial Universal Credit is explored at length, along with the other recent welfare reforms that have been made to the welfare system. The guide concludes with a startling article about the realities of living on benefits, and tackles the hot topic: are illegal immigrants a burden to the welfare system?

Other Educational Guides from Cashfloat

The UK Welfare System Guide is just the latest in a large collection of educational guides released by Cashfloat. There are guides about a wide range of topics, including family finances, pensions in the UK, the effects of Brexit, and what to do if you’ve lost your job. Cashfloat aims to help as many people as possible, either through lending them the money to survive a temporary financial crisis, or through raising awareness about financial issues.

About Cashfloat

Cashfloat.co.uk is a trading style of Western Circle Limited; an FCA-fully authorised direct lender. The Cashfloat model is based on fundamentally good morals and very advanced artificial intelligence technology designed to help and protect people taking payday loans online.

May 22, Cape Town, South Africa - Expat Explore is one of Europe’s top tour operators and has been conducting coach tours in the UK and on the European mainland for 12 years. Founded by South Africans Jakes Maritz and Carl Cronje in 2005, the company annually hosts over 15,000 travellers from around the world.

In the wake of this unprecedented success, the pair decided to invite avid adventurers to explore their home country on tailor-made tours that will draw on their unique understanding of South Africa and its breathtaking attractions.

Carl Cronje, co-founder of Expat Explore, diligently designed the company's South African tours over the course of five years. The first trial tour departed from Cape Town on 3rd February 2017 and welcomed visitors of various nationalities on a test run prior to rolling out the final product.

“We wanted this tour to do our country justice," says Cronje, "and we believe it is one of the best introductions to South Africa that you can find. As a destination, it has so much to offer - diverse landscapes, cultures, cuisine, wildlife, and more. Not to mention a surprisingly robust tourism infrastructure and an exceedingly hospitable populace. The people of South Africa are immensely open to tourists, and visitors always feel as if travelling here is a homecoming experience of sorts.”

One of Expat Explore’s main objectives is to offer affordable, value-for-money tour packages that include authentic travel experiences. The company’s fixed-number South African tours will also be the first of their kind to offer guaranteed departures and an itinerary tailored specifically to smaller groups (a maximum of 40 people) from abroad.

Given the great variety of attractions in South Africa, the tours cover an impressive range of activities and regions during a relatively short stay. Tour packages vary in length and include destinations such as Cape Town, the Cape Winelands, the Garden Route, and the Karoo and Kruger National Parks.

London Marathon Charitable Trust Launches first national funding programme

Monday 22 May, 2017
New Active Spaces partnership between The London Marathon Charitable Trust and Fields in Trust will protect open spaces and tackle physical inactivity across the UKInitiative will create a legacy of 50 permanently protected outdoor spaces across the UK

The London Marathon Charitable Trust has announced its first UK-wide funding programme with an innovative Active Spaces partnership with Fields in Trust to safeguard the future of green spaces across the UK and to encourage people, particularly the most inactive communities, to participate in physical activity, sport and play.

The Trust has set aside £675,000 in 2017/18 to safeguard 50 green spaces in perpetuity and to fund activation programmes on those sites. Through the partnership with Fields in Trust, the green spaces will be protected from development by funding from The Trust. In addition, each site will be awarded a grant of up to £5,000 by The Trust to fund programmes that inspire the local community to get active. Programmes can include any activity including walking, cycling or coaching on the use of outdoor gym equipment.

One chosen site in each home nation (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) which demonstrates the most significant impact will receive a major grant of £25,000 for its activation programme.

Landowners and communities across the UK can now apply online to protect a site and to secure funding for activation programmes at www.bit.ly/Active-Spaces. Sites will be selected for support following an assessment of the proposed activation programme.

The London Marathon Charitable Trust was created in 1981 by Chris Brasher and John Disley, the founders of the London Marathon. Their vision ensured that the profits from the race, and future events organised by London Marathon Events Ltd, would go to The London Marathon Charitable Trust in perpetuity.

To date, The London Marathon Charitable Trust has awarded grants totalling in excess of £66 million to more than 1,190 projects in London, Surrey and other areas where London Marathon Events Ltd has organised events. This partnership with Fields in Trust is the first programme that extends beyond those areas to reach communities across the UK.

“Since 1981, The London Marathon Charitable Trust has funded a huge range of projects which have inspired millions of people to get active in London, Surrey and other areas where London Marathon Events Ltd has organised events,” said Sir Rodney Walker, Chairman of The London Marathon Charitable Trust. “Participants in those events come from all over the UK and we feel now is the right time to make funding available to every community to safeguard much-loved local parks and green spaces and inspire more people to lead a more active lifestyle and increase the number of people regularly taking part in sports and physical activities. We believe this Active Spaces programme is delivering a practical response to the key government objectives of creating a more active nation.”

The first UK-wide funding programme from The London Marathon Charitable Trust has successfully attracted applications from across the UK. A total of fifty sites will be selected for the programme; locations in London, the midlands and the north of England will be added shortly to the first six sites which have already been identified:

Belfast City Council is protecting Cregagh Green, an open space in the heart of a large housing development - the site where George Best was spotted playing football as a teenage “genius”. Future generations will now be able to enjoy outdoor sport and recreation on this historic pitch.Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough council have designated Gelligaled Park, Ystrad Rhondda as their Active Space; the council will be co-ordinating a physical activity programme for local residents in an area with the lowest levels of activity in Wales. Roskear Recreation Ground in Camborne, Cornwall is currently under-used yet serves an expanding community with few alternative opportunities for sport and physical activity. A new strategy will improve local facilities and attract all ages to become more physically active in this area in which people who are worst off experience poorer health and shorter lives. In Kings Lynn, Norfolk, the River Lane Sports Pitches were earmarked for a new road and housing development but the local residents association campaigned for the council to safeguard this site with Fields in Trust ensuring access for recreation. Levels of physical inactivity in Kings Lynn are higher than both the regional and national average and a new programme is being developed to engage inactive members of the community.Pilton Park West is owned by the City of Edinburgh Council. The park is located in an area of multiple deprivation, (Scottish IMD 2016). A physical activity “boot camp” run by Edinburgh and Lothian Greenspace Trust will work with the recently establish parks friends group, to improve physical activity whilst building community connections. Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire is amongst the 12% most deprived areas in England; Forest Road Playing Fields is going to be the site of intergenerational sports coaching – supporting families to enjoy sport and exercise together.

Fields in Trust currently safeguards over 2,600 sites, a total of 30,000 acres of land (12,140ha.) including playgrounds, playing fields, and formal and informal parkland across the UK.

Recreational spaces in residential areas remain a priority for protection at a time when there is pressure on land for new housing development. Parks and playing fields safeguarded with a Fields in Trust deed of dedication ensure that the land will be protected for community use, in perpetuity. Fields in Trust believe that all communities, and particularly young people, should be able to enjoy healthy, active, outdoor recreation within walking distance of home.

Chief Executive of Fields in Trust, Helen Griffiths said: “We believe the best way to protect our green spaces is for communities to get out and use them; this programme will activate new groups of users to enjoy local parks and playing fields. We will identify sites which are well loved by their communities and protect these spaces forever. The associated activity on site can help catalyse a local community to use their recreational space and get active.

“This joint project demonstrates the shared commitment of both The London Marathon Charitable Trust and Fields in Trust to both engage and support communities to become more physically active, and to protect outdoor space in perpetuity. Taken together both participant organisations demonstrate a practical response to delivering the key government objective of a more active nation which was articulated in the Department for Culture Media and Sport’s Sporting Future - A New Strategy for an Active Nation.”

NOTES TO EDITORS

The London Marathon Charitable Trust was created in 1981 by London Marathon founders Chris Brasher and John Disley. Their vision ensured that the profits from the race, and future events organised by London Marathon Events Ltd, would go to The London Marathon Charitable Trust in perpetuity. Fields in Trust is a national charity that operates throughout the UK to safeguard recreational spaces and campaign for better statutory protection for all kinds of outdoor sites.

To date, LMCT has awarded grants totalling in excess of £66 million to more than 1,190 projects in London, Surrey and other areas where London Marathon Events Ltd has organised events. London Marathon Events Ltd donates 100% of its profits to The Trust.

www.lmct.org.uk

Founded in 1925 as the National Playing Fields Association by King George V, their mission is the same now as it was then: to ensure that everyone – young or old, able-bodied or disabled and wherever they live – should have access to free, local outdoor space for sport, play and recreation. These spaces are vital to building happy and healthy communities and sadly continue to be threatened by all kinds of development.

Mum raises over £2,500 to thank charity that kept her by seriously ill son’s hospital bedside

Monday 22 May, 2017

A mum who nearly lost her baby son to a rare condition earlier this year is getting ready to take on her first skydive to raise money for The Sick Children’s Trust.

Gemma Smart, 31 from Littleport, is bravely preparing to take on the challenge later this weekend in Beccles, Suffolk, to say thank you to the charity which helped her and her family whilst their baby boy, Drew, was fighting for his life in hospital.

At just a few days old, Drew underwent emergency surgery to fit a stoma and colostomy bag after being diagnosed with colonic atresia, where the colon hasn’t formed correctly and results in a very rare type of obstruction in the intestines.

Six months later, Drew was readmitted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for his stoma to be reversed. The operation seemed a success, but Drew soon took a turn for the worse becoming increasingly unwell as scar tissue had caused his bowel to become perforated. Over the next three weeks, little Drew endured three emergency operations to save his life. Mum Gemma and her husband Rob watched on helplessly as their only child endured operation after operation, still only a few months old. However, throughout this time they were just minutes from their baby’s hospital bedside at Acorn House, free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation run by The Sick Children’s Trust. Gemma, who has already passed her fundraising target and raised £2,628, says:

“This amazing charity gave us a place to stay when we were desperate; out of our minds with fear and worry when we thought we were going to lose our beautiful son. I felt hopeless back then watching my baby who was so tiny and helpless with doctors rushing around trying to save his life. It still hurts to think about it now.

“The Sick Children’s Trust really helped Rob and me. I don’t know how we would’ve coped - I was honestly on the verge of a break down. In what was the hardest time of our lives, being able to stay at Acorn House was an incredible help, and a huge comfort when there was so little comfort to be had.

“I think we would’ve become very sick ourselves without the help of Acorn House Manager Abi and her team. We were with Drew from 7am until 10pm each day. When he was really ill and I was terrified for him, I was able to walk back across the road from Acorn House and sit with him all night.”

Drew spent nine weeks in hospital before his parents were finally able to take him home. He is now nine months old and doing well. Gemma adds:

“Drew has been through so much at such a young age. He continues to make huge steps towards recovery, although it will be at least six months before doctors can once again try to reverse his stoma operation. But for now, we’re just so pleased to have him at home with us.”

The Sick Children’s Trust runs ten ‘Homes from Home’ across the country, giving families with seriously ill children free accommodation just minutes from their child’s hospital bedside. The charity relies entirely on voluntary donations and it costs the charity £30 to support a family for one night. Acorn House Manager, Abi Abdel-aal, says:

“We’re thrilled to hear that Drew is doing well back home with Gemma and Rob. It has been a real rollercoaster for them, but it’s wonderful to hear he is on the road to recovery.

“Gemma’s friends and family have been so generous with their donations and thanks to all this money raised, The Sick Children’s Trust will be able to make a huge difference in supporting families with seriously ill children in hospital with free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation. We wish Gemma luck with her skydive and can’t wait to see the photos.”

New Tinnitus Support Group forms in Salisbury

Monday 22 May, 2017

22/05/2017 A new group to support local people with tinnitus is being formed in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday 7 June 2017, 1.30-3.30pm at the Salisbury Medical Practice, Fisherton House, Fountain Way, Salisbury, SP2 7FD.

The group is being organised by Katy Gillingham, Health Promotion Assistant at Salisbury Medical Practice, who says: “We are very excited to host a Tinnitus Support Cafe here at Salisbury Medical Practice. I think it is very important that people who are living with tinnitus are able to share their own experiences and meet other people in a similar situation to themselves in a relaxed environment. Refreshments will be provided and there is no need to book, just drop in!”

Dave Carr, BTA Volunteering and Engagement Manager comments: “Being among people who have the problem, listening to their experiences and how they have managed to handle things, is a tremendous help for the individual. I witness this first hand when attending group meetings. It is amazing seeing the difference it makes to people, especially those who have recently been diagnosed.”

Tinnitus is defined as the experience of sounds with no external source, most commonly ringing or buzzing, but sometimes experienced as whooshing, clicking or even music. Many people aren’t troubled by sounds they hear, but for around 10%, the condition has a significant impact on their quality of life, often linked to stress, anxiety or sometimes depression.

Dave adds: “Tinnitus can be an isolating condition, with friends and family struggling to understand how it feels to adapt to the presence of loud or persistent noises. Some people choose to bring a partner or family member to the meetings, which can often help both parties understand more about the condition and the experiences or behaviours it can bring.”

If you would like to find out more, please contact Katy Gillingham on 01722 333 034 or katy.gillingham@nhs.net

Case studies and experts are available for interview/photo opportunities to support this story.

They aim to encourage prevention through its educational programme and to seek effective treatment for tinnitus through a medical research programme.

They receive no government support and need to raise half a million pounds each year to continue their UK wide support. Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/BTA

Not an illness or disease, tinnitus is a term that describes the sensation of hearing a noise in the absence of an external sound. The noise can have virtually any quality. Ringing, whistling, and buzzing are common, but more complex sounds may also be reported. Troublesome tinnitus can be very distressing for the affected individual, and issues may arise with sleep, concentration and mood. However, in many cases, subtle changes in people’s environment can address these issues, and improve quality of life.

New service from Age UK Lambeth, MYsocial, launches on June 3rd with a Reggae & Soul afternoon

There has been a lot of research to show that loneliness and social isolation are harmful to our health: demonstrating, amongst other things, that lacking social connections is as damaging to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, that being lonely makes you more prone to depression, and that two fifths of all older people say the television is their main company. With that in mind, Age UK Lambeth is launching a new social membership service called MYsocial on Saturday June 3rd with a Reggae and Soul afternoon. MYsocial members will have access to a full social calendar, the chance to meet new people, and do things that make them happy. Membership, usually £4.95 a month, is open to all ages and will be free for anyone coming to the launch event to be held at The Hideaway, Streatham between 1pm and 4pm. Tickets are free but need to be booked by visiting www.mysocial.london or calling Age UK Lambeth on 0207 346 6800.

Age UK Lambeth Chief Executive, Graham Gardiner, says, “Lambeth is a great borough, with lots of things to do and see. But it is also a borough with a great number of people, of all ages and from all walks of life, who feel lonely some of the time. MYsocial is a great chance to find people to do new things with. We look forward to meeting new friends on Saturday 3rd June, the first of what will be many exciting events for MYsocial members ”

With a third of events free and a third under a tenner, MYsocial is affordable for most people. Members will save money by getting free tea and coffee at the Member's Lounge, Vida Walsh Centre, Saltoun Road, as well as saving money on events and eventually with a range of local businesses.

About GB Marketing Enterprise: http://www.gbmarketingenterprise.com/about-us/

As a firm that is determined to provide exceptional business development opportunities for young and ambitious professionals, GB Marketing Enterprise is committed to creating a winning environment that celebrates excellence.

During the session, the firm’sManaging Director Graham Buchanan explained that professionals are more likely to thrive if they surround themselves with peers who share their same values and ambitions. A winning environment typically incorporates a positive and nurturing domain that motivates individuals to reach their potential and is conducive to success.

The results of a recent Bain survey found that 81% of professionals agreed that a company without a winning culture was doomed to mediocrity. Mr Buchanan agreed with these findings and outlined some key actions that firms can implement to create a winning environment.

Encourage people to be the best - GB Marketing Enterprise believes that investing in professional development and helping individuals to achieve their goals will assist in creating a winning environment that encourages camaraderie - giving them the support they need to reach their potential.

Competitiveness and desire - Introducing competitions and incentives is a fantastic way to galvanise professionals. Respect - Professionals are naturally more inclined to thrive in an atmosphere where they feel respected and valued. Respect is a fundamental component to creating a winning environment, and it maintains loyalty and increases productivity, which ultimately determines the overall success of a firm.

Based in Cardiff, GB Marketing Enterprise is an event marketing firm that delivers cost-effective direct marketing solutions for their clients.
